Theory of Knowledge is a core subject of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It deals with epitomological issues and develops the students understanding of their knowledge and learning and allows them to communicate it academically. The course explores a person's Ways of Knowing through reason, sense perception, intuition, etc. and deals with different areas of knowledge ranging from the natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics to ethics.
This experience has had an enormaous impact on me as an academically and it has developed my teaching dramatically in all areas, but especially the Humanities.
Teaching at ACS International School, Cobham has provided me with the opportunity to teach AP Human Geography which has developed my understanding of Human Geography to a much wider extent and introduced me to other forms of assessment. AP Human Geography is an American course recognised for university entrance. The ecperience has allowed me to explore a different approach to the subject from a different perspective.
Topics covered:
Thinking Geographically
Population and Migration Patterns and Processes
Cultural Patterns and Processes
Political Patterns and Processes
Agriculture and Rural Land-Use Patterns and Processes
Cities and Urban Land-Use Patterns and Processes

In the UK I taught Geography AS/A2 Level at Fairwater High School, in a department proud to have the best results in the school. I regard my time teaching Geography at such a high level as the most rewarding and enjoyable time in my teaching career. In light of specification changes, I held the responsibility for creating the majority of teaching files, schemes of work, teaching resources and assessments. I shared the teaching equally with the head of department and together we set up Geography A level course that enabled the students to attain exceptional examination results. I was responsible for marking and moderating Geography coursework as a result I have an excellent understanding of the demands of the examination board. I formed close relationships to my colleagues at the department and communicate regularly to share best practice and exchange resources.
I have taught Geography at GCSE at KS4 with a variety of examination boards, including WJEC, AQA and Cambridge. I have covered all aspects of the curriculum and have ensured that teaching and learning has remained accessible to all abilities and is exciting to learn considering the greater depth of study. At New cairo british International School I introduced the change of specification to the 9 - 1 grading system. I taught Geography iGCSE resulting in one student achieving the highest GCSE Geography grade in Egypt. I successfully advocated a change from Geography GCSE to IGCSE to better suit the needs of the international student body and incorporated Geographical Information Systems that exceed the demands of controlled assessment criteria of GCSE. At ACS International School I have had the pleasure of teaching History at KS4. While teaching history at this level was not without its challenges, I found it extremely rewarding to gain new knowledge and skills to improve my teaching within the humanities.
I have taught throughout the humanities at KS3 at numerous schools during my career. Prior to the Donaldson Report, at Gems Wellington International School, Dubai, I collaborated with other teachers in the humanities department in the design and implementation of an integrated Humanities Curriculum, which to this day is one of my proudest and innovative achievements. I created modules that I consider to be important issues that exist in society today that I co-taught with other members of the humanities department. I experimented by collaborating internationally with other schools as well as using the school facilities such as the TV & radio studios to make the humanities more engaging. We established a system of assessment adapted from the National Curriculum levels at that time to meet the expectations of parents and sufficient for the following school inspection.
At Cwmbran High School, my teaching covered all aspects of the UK national curriculum in Geography and I have created a wealth of resources that are exciting, modern and differentiated for different learning needs. I have fostered a learning environment that constantly engages and challenges students of all abilities.
At NCBIS, Egypt I designed a new Key Stage 3 Geography Curriculum based on thematic topics and inquiry based learning and with my Year 7 History class, I collaborated with the Drama department to deliver a thematic project that enhanced the students' learning and developed their transferrable skills.
In addition to Geography and Humanities, I have taught KS3 classes in Maths, Science and History.
